Film Opening Final

For my final piece I decided to create an opening which had a thriller/mystery genre to it. I wanted to create something that was fresh but with the amount of films under those categories, I found it hard to create something people would find different. The feel of my opening relates to films such as Scream, where the girl is alone in her home when she feels as if she being watched from the outside. I decided to add a twist into the storyline to create a killer within a group of friends which would hopefully add suspense if i revealed this in the opening of the film, it would also capture the viewer's attention and make them want to find out who this killer is.

  1. I like the variety of shots used to show the different stages of the opening film sequence, such as saying good bye to the friend walking her home, to entering the house, walking into the rooms...etc (showing the flow of the film and building up to whats going to happen)
I like the use of the background music and the natural music playing at the same time, and cutting to the titles to break it up
The different use of shots is good, such as the point of view shots, match on action, following shots...etc
When the character walks out of the house, it is hard to see because its a too dark
also if there was a better close up of the 'checklist' and being able to see the various names might create alot more suspence as your reading through the list yourself

But great build up and great combination of shots, music and sound!

  2. I like the title font as it is quite simple but the colour and simplicity looks really nice of the black background. you have used a variety of shots, there are short ones and continuous ones which i like, I particularly like the shot of the murder walking up the stairs and the way you never see his face.

The only parts you could improve on if you were to do it again would be:
    - holding the camera a little bit more steady when you were looking into the kitchen, unless that was the effect you wanted

but overall it was very intriguing for the viewer and i love the use of sound well done :)

  3. I like the music you've chosen throughout as i feel that this really helps to build the tension and creates a very edgy feel. I also like the way that the filming is cut at certain parts to reveal titles. I think that the part where the camera is filming from outside and looking in is very effective as it is shaking, which gives me (the viewer) that this is someone watching the girl.
I also really like the way that you are able to see the knife in the persons hand once they are in the house, and the fact that the viewer is aware of it before the girl is a very tense atmosphere. I also like the way that the camera follows the person at all times however their face is never revealed.
The only criticism i have is that maybe when the knife is placed on the bed it should have some markings of blood on it to create more of an understanding and make it look more realistic.
However i think that the music used works really well with this film and overall it is a really good piece.

  4. I like the camera angles and the way you see the killer looking over the wall at her through the kitchen. I think the music creates the tension well because you know something is going to happen. I like the font of the titles and the way it goes to black screen. I like how you see the killing from the window, however i think it would have been good if we actually saw the killing and also the list of people could be clearer to make it scarier, but overall i liked the story line :)

  5. Hey Jodie Its Jack here to say...
I like you opening sequence and I think that it flows very well. I like the shots you have used because you didn't just go for short shots you found ways of making them flow into each other which I found refreshing. I like your music as well it added to the tension well and made me feel worried for the main character. I also like the angle where the killer was standing outside the window because you could see his hand shaking overall I think the video is very good and my only criticism is the lighting in the first shot because you couldn't really see what was happening.
Its okay though :) no its good well done!!!
    you can thank me later...

  6. I Like the fact that as a viewer it feels like were the ones staking the actor. I thought it was a good and creative shot. Also The Other Actor Is Unseen, So it brings out a mystery of who the actor is. I Liked the Simply Text embedded in the film because it does not give an over dramatic effect to the film.

one thing i think jodie could improve upon was i thought that as the text was being shown it could have been shown a little longer and the previous scene noise was cut out

    But overall Well Done! :)

  7. some good shots and angles were used.
i really liked the plot of the story, and the fact that she seemed to know them added to the tension dramatically.
I like when the title comes up it is the only thing on the screen which adds tention also you know that some one is watching her but you don't know who which keeps you on the edge of your seat.

    Well Done

  8. i think the music you have chosen works well with the opening it hold the tension throughout.
i like how we never see his face creating the enigma effect it makes me want to watch it more so we find out who he is and why he was killing these people.
The lighting worked really well where we see him/her walk into the living room and he pulls out the knife because working under dark lighting is difficult to do.
the titles worked very well coming in every now and then not too often, they were very simple but this worked better.

i think the only criticisms i have is the bit where the murderer is looking through the kitchen window i think the camera was a little unsteady. i also think you could have shown the checklist a little more clearly as it was very hard to see.

other than that the music and edits were good and i think it was a good opening sequence.
